Free Events Empower Diabetes Patients with Expert Advice, Health Screenings, Product Coupons & Gift Raffles
WHAT: Your local Rite Aid stores listed below will be holding free Diabetes Solutions Day clinics from 2 to 6 p.m. on the days and locations indicated below. An annual Rite Aid tradition, these clinics are a great chance for patients and caretakers alike to brush up on the latest information from our clinical pharmacy team and the American Diabetes Association, a Rite Aid national strategic partner. Media members interested in attending should contact us prior to arriving. Photography and filming will be allowed when possible, and this is a great chance to cover your community's piece of a very serious – and expensive – nationwide epidemic.
WHY: There are few health conditions more widespread than diabetes, which touches one out of every two Americans either directly or indirectly. Yet diabetes is equally hidden in America, where 5.7 million people don't even know they have it and another 57 million live with pre-diabetes. Diabetes costs our country $174 billion annually (this cost alone is more per year than any of the health care plans being discussed in Washington, D.C.). According to a recent study in the American Journal of Public Health,avoiding diabetes can save the average American $34,483 a year and, more importantly, result in more than three extra years of life.
