Bunche Elementary’s Family Night at Chuck E. Cheese’s
Raises Over $5,000 for School Programs and Materials

COMPTON, Calif., — With help from over 200 students, teachers and families, Compton Unified School District’s (CUSD) Bunche Elementary School raised over $5,000 at its Annual Family Night, Tuesday, November 10.
The event, held at Chuck E. Cheese’s, 20700 Avalon Blvd., Carson, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., was not only an opportunity for families, teachers and staff to connect over a slice of pizza, but also a chance to provide Bunche with financial support. Fifteen percent of all registered sales, including food, merchandise and games went towards the CUSD school’s educational programs and materials. Sponsors included Bunche Elementary’s Parent Teacher Organization.
Bunche Elementary kindergarten teacher Amber Murphy said she was proud of the school’s parents and students for “showing up, having fun and supporting our school.” Murphy added, “By coming out tonight we are funding school programs that encourage our kids to achieve. Many of the proceeds will also go towards purchasing school supplies such as pencils, coloring books and student incentives such as stickers.” She also pointed out that the event helped to open communication between teachers, staff and parents. “This event allows us to get together and talk about our students’ progress in a more relaxing venue.”
Jessica Flores, whose son is in third grade, had two reasons for attending Bunche Elementary’s Annual Family Night. “First off, I’m here to help the school,” she said. “But I’m also here to let my child have some fun.” Flores added, “I think it’s good to see

parents here helping out. It’s important that we all do whatever is necessary to support our school because our efforts help to provide our kids with the best education possible.”
Millie Christopher, whose granddaughter is in second grade, said she admires Bunche’s efforts to raise money. “Especially in this economy, it’s always good if you can raise funds for your school. We need to do whatever we can,” she noted. “Above all, I’m here to support my granddaughter, the teachers and the kids.” Christopher also added that besides raising funds for Bunche, she looked forward to spending “quality time” with her granddaughter. “She thinks she’s the boss right now, pulling me here and there asking for tokens to play games or go on rides, but for me it’s worth it.”
