Executive committee member of the California State Bar Litigation Section and partner at law firm Rutter Hobbs & Davidoff, Judy Lam is spearheading the unprecedented opportunity for attorneys from across the state to visit Hong Kong and learn about its legal system at “A Week in Legal Hong Kong” Nov. 1-6. The California State Bar has organized international exchange programs in Oxfordand Londonfor the past 20 years, and Legal Hong Kong is its first program in Asia.
“It’s an optimal time to strengthen our ties with the Far East, as California lawyers are well- poised to assist with business and investors coming from Asia,” said Lam. “This program gives an insider’s view into Hong Kong’s legal and business structures plus rich cultural exchange and relationship-building for cross-Pacific business.”
“A Week in Legal Hong Kong” includes visits to the seven different courts, such as the Magistrates Court, the Court of Final Appeal and the Land and Labor Tribunals, plus informative legal education presentations. The delegates, which will include President of the State Bar of California Howard Miller, will experience events at various Hong Kong institutions including the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx) with President Ron Arculli; the Law Offices of King & Wood LLP, China’s largest law firm, and Deacons LLP, the oldest law firm in Hong Kong; the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC); The China Club; and many others.
