We can never thank them enough. And we must never forget.
More than 27 million veterans live in the United States. Two million of them bear the wounds of battle.
The California Disabled Veterans Business Alliance honors those who have served with the 2009 Veterans Tribute Breakfast. Highlighting this year's kickoff to several days of Veteran's tributes will be the ultimate patriotic ceremony as 100 young men and women are sworn into active duty in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard and congratulated by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Special guest of honor is 81 year old Tibor Rubin, one of 94 living Medal of Honor recipients who waited 45 years to be recognized after his heroism in Korea. He is a Southern California resident and the only Holocaust survivor to receive the nation’s highest honor.
Also present at the breakfast, will be 400 disabled veterans, active duty military back from deployment, celebrity guests and community leaders. This should serve as a reminder to all Americans to “Keep the Promise” to those who have served as well as those beginning service.
The California Disabled Veterans Business Alliance began 15 years ago and is designed to help disabled veteran small-business owners in the state create opportunities with government agencies and private corporations. Recognized nationally for serving California's two million veterans, more than 200,000 of them disabled, the Alliance has been a prime factor in California's leadership in service to all veterans and has helped develop national support in the public and private sector throughout the country.
Because of the tight job market, a growing number of veterans are starting their own businesses. Disabled veteran owned firms need assistance in pursuing opportunities with government agencies and major corporations. The return of more than 1.5 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has combined to create an increased need for helping veterans begin businesses and grow them.
Celebrity guests include Tommy Lasorda, Nancy Sinatra, Lou Ferigno, Jon Voight, Charles Durning and some 20 other stars of film, TV and sports who support veteran’s causes
