Meg Whitman was a guest today on San Diego's FOX 5 Morning News where she discussed her plan for A New California that includes focusing on creating jobs, cutting spending in Sacramento, and fixing our state's educational system. Meg also discussed why she believes "[Jerry Brown] is beholden to the unions. The unions are financing his campaign. As a result, I do not think he is going to take on the tough work of renegotiating these benefits and having new public employees come in under a different deal." Watch the entire interview below:

Meet Tony Strickland

With an economic philosophy firmly grounded in the belief that state government must manage our resources efficiently and remain accountable to taxpayers, Tony Strickland’s proven record of reforming government has uniquely prepared him to lead the Office of the State Controller.

Tony put the politicians on notice during his tenure in the State Assembly when he filed a lawsuit against then-Governor Gray Davis on behalf of energy ratepayers. Strickland’s suit ultimately forced the Davis Administration to reveal the outrageously expensive energy contracts it had negotiated in secret between the State of California and energy companies.

As a member of the California State Senate, Tony’s top priority has been to restore California’s economy. He believes the best way to preserve funding for vital programs like healthcare, education, and transportation is by creating jobs. He has worked with Democrats and Republicans alike to craft fundamental reforms to California’s budget process that has brought an unacceptable crisis to the state.

Prior to his election to the State Senate, Tony served in the California State Assembly where he established a reputation as an advocate for taxpayers and job creators. In recognition of his efforts to create jobs and strengthen our economy, the California Chamber of Commerce awarded Tony with a perfect 100% for Tony’s proven record to help create better, higher-paying jobs, and strengthen our economy.

Tony serves as Vice President of GreenWave Energy Solutions LLC, a company that seeks to harness the power of ocean waves to provide energy to Californians. He believes that California must transition to a renewable, more energy-efficient economy to jumpstart the economy, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, improve the environment, and lower energy prices. GreenWave Energy Solutions was the recipient of the United Chamber of Commerce Small Business Award for 2008 and Tony has been featured on CNBC for his work with the company.

The youngest of 3 children, Tony Strickland was raised by his mother, Antonie, who immigrated to the United States from Germany and became a U.S. Citizen in 1971, and his father, Don, a career military soldier. Tony and his wife Audra have been married for 11 years and together are raising two children—Ruby Ruth and Anthony Paul.

An active member of his community, Tony has been a Board Member of the Ventura County Council Boy Scouts of America, an Advisory Committee Member of Food Share, and an Honorary Board Member of the Moorpark Boys & Girls Club, in addition to being active in numerous civic, business and church organizations throughout Ventura County. Tony currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for Consumer Credit Counseling Service.

In 2002, Tony was the recipient of the San Fernando Valley Business & Professional Association’s Free Enterprise Award, for championing economic policies that help create opportunities for working families.

Tony received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Whittier College. In 1992, Whittier College recognized Tony’s achievements by bestowing him with its Leadership and Service Award. Tony currently serves as Co-Chair to Meg Whitman for Governor Campaign and was California Chair for Mitt Romney For President.

Tony currently represents the California’s 19th State Senate District, which includes portions of Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties. Tony was the Republican nominee for State Controller in 2006
