The Related Company issued the following press release. Interesting what is not included in the release... No mention of Candy Spelling... so we can assume the ship has sailed there... and there is a mention about the penthouse units are available.

Speculation around the community is that this is a last ditch effort before they close the building and wait for the economy to come back for a couple of years. The question is does it cost more to keep the building open with a handful of residents or to keep it empty?

Let's just keep in mind that Stephen Ross purchased the Virgin Mega Stores and then closed them. He has no problem walking away from his investment in some out of sight out of mind west coast investment. His other investments are mostly on the East Coast.

I am sure he would be open to offers from the Century City Funds if someone wanted to take the project over. Might be a tremendous buying opportunity.

I dialed '0' to check this out, and the operator confirmed that this was correct, so please pass it on.. (l also checked out snopes.com. This is true, and also applies to cell phones!)

PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW

I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician (could also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine (9), zero (0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.

Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number.

I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons. DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE...

The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW.

After checking with Verizon they also said it was true, so do not dial 90# for anyone !!!!! PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!

I sent the following email to Candy Spelling:

ARE YOU BACKING OUT OF THE CONDO PURCHASE?

There are rumors swirling around Century City about you and this condo. I contacted Mr. Stephen Ross and asked him to provide me with information. I verified with his secretary that he received the letter and after two weeks have no response... which leads me to wonder what is happening... no information is a really bad sign in light of so few sales recorded with the Los Angeles County Recorder...

So are you backing out? Are you renegotiating your deal? Are you going to be one of the handful of occupants in the building?

Please let me know so that I can inform my readers...

A representative of Candy Spelling contacted the Century City News and said “Mrs. Spelling had surgery at the end of last week and is not looking at her email.” This fuels the speculation that Ms. Spelling will close on her condo at The Century, in Century City. The project has few closed sales after three years of selling. Billionaire Stephen Ross heads the project. He has been asked about the condo sale to Candy Spelling and has yet to respond. One of the issues in California with a new luxury building is Proposition 13. People who bought their properties twenty or thirty years ago can’t afford the increase in property taxes. Maybe they can afford it but in this economy do they want to part with all of that money? Real Estate in California needs a systemic change or it will continue the freefall that tells us all that if we wait we can get it cheaper tomorrow. The Century will end up being a rental property if it is viable at all.
